Before requesting an appointment with one of our clinicians, it may be worth looking at our self-referrals page to check if a surgery appointment is needed for the service you require.

How To Request An Appointment

You can request an appointment in the following ways:

Types of Appointments

  • 20% of our appointments are available for pre-booking up to two weeks in advance.
  • 10% of appointments are reserved for the doctor to review any patients needing follow up.
  • 70% of appointments become available on the day.

Simply contact us by telephone on the day you need to be seen and we will do our best to accommodate you, if at all possible, with the doctor of your choice. Please try to ring at 08:15.

The surgery receptionists are available to speak to face to face, from 08:15 until 18:30.

Waiting Times

Surgeries and clinics will normally start on time.

We expect patients to be seen within 30 minutes of their appointment time, and in the event of a delay we will offer an explanation.

When a doctor is called away on an emergency we will inform the patients and give them the opportunity to book an alternative appointment or, if preferred, to be seen by another doctor.

Speaking To A Doctor Or Nurse During Surgery Opening Hours

If you need to speak to a doctor or nurse and the clinician is not consulting, your call will be put through to the clinician. If the clinician has begun surgery, you will be advised of the time when he/she should have finished seeing patients and to ring at that time.

If you ring again and the clinician is still not available to take the call, the receptionist will give your telephone number to the clinician to ring you as soon as they are free to do so.

Patient Access

We have set up the facility for some appointments with the doctors to be booked online. Poplars Surgery now offers patient access. Patient access allows you to view certain parts of your medical record and view your contact information. Please visit the surgery website to register for this service.

To ensure confidentiality and data protection, you will be asked to provide photographic ID to register. When you register you will be given a user name and password which you will use to access the system. Once your request has been accepted by the surgery, a form with your user details will be left at reception to be collected.

Doctors Surgery Times

To view our doctors’ surgery times, please visit our Doctors Schedule page.

Missed Appointments

By not attending booked appointments we are unable to offer this appointment to somebody who may need it. Poplars Surgery has a policy that if a patient misses three appointments in a one year period without contacting the surgery, they will be removed from our practice list and will need to register elsewhere.

Cancelling An Appointment

If you are unable to keep an appointment please let us know using our Cancel An Appointment Triage as soon as possible, this may enable someone else to be seen.
